MINNEAPOLIS, MN-- After tense negotiations between city officials and Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) executives, a deal has been reached to license the naming rights of Minneapolis to Target Corporation for an undisclosed amount.
"Since we already have Target Field, the Target Center and another building with that red target on it, we think the citizens of Minneapolis will embrace this deal," said Council Vice President Robert Lilligren. "We now have to agree on a name."
The deal is speculated to be worth about $5-$10 billion, part of which state law makers are hoping to use to shrink the state budget deficit.
When asked about the name, Tina Schiel, Senior Vice President of New Business Development said, "We aren't sure yet, we just wanted to secure the deal before some other company did. We've tossed around possibilities like Target City, Targetapolis, Target Greatla--er I guess we already use that."
When asked about his opinion, one local Minneapolis resident who preferred to not be named said, "I don't like this, I don't like this one bit. As soon as I get home I'm going to complain about it on the internet." We have yet to find his complaint, but we will keep you updated as news flows in.
