I hate having to install local software for many reasons, so I prefer to have everything on the web, or as much as possible. Part of the reason is because I regularly use three different computers, but also, I can access all of my stuff from any computer with an internet connection. I also do not have to worry about backing things up.
Thanks to Trillian you can use a web-based chat client to enable chat on your BusinessCard2.
[Click on the screenshots to see the full size if you are unable to read something.]
Step 1: Go to http://www.trillian.im and you’ll see this:
Step 2: Click on ‘Register’ in order to create an Astra login, which is basically an account for Trillian.
Enter in a username (this can be anything you want) and an email. Check the box and then click ‘Next’.
Enter a password and security question, then click ‘Start’. The system will then sign you in and you’ll receive a confirmation email. Be sure to click on the ‘Confirmation link’ contained in this email. Here is what you will see when you first sign in:
Step 3: To add BusinessCard2 Chat, click on the button that is circled in red. I don’t know how to describe the button, but I know you should click it. You will then see a screen like so:
Click ‘Add Connection’ and you will see this:
Select ‘JABBER’ in the drop-down menu. The login username and password are as follows:
Login: [BC2 URL NAME]@chat.businesscard2.com
Password: [Your BusinessCard2 Password]In my case, I use ‘geoff@chat.businesscard2.com’ since my BusinessCard2 url is http://geoff.businesscard2.com/.
Finally, click ‘Connect’ to log in. Boom! You’re done!
But wait, if you have made it this far, you should give it a try. While staying logged in to Trillian, open a new browser tab (ctrl + t) and go to your BusinessCard2 url. This is what you should see:
Next, try chatting with yourself. Click on the ‘Contact’ tab and select ‘Chat’. You will see this:
To confirm, tab over to Trillian and you should be greeted with a message from yourself:
Type something back, and then go back to your BusinessCard2 windows:
That’s it. If you would like, you can chat with yourself for hours. Just make sure no one finds out that you are chatting with yourself over the internet.
Lastly, if something in this guide is not clear, please feel free to contact me via some form of electronic communication (such as my BusinessCard2) and I will do my best to help you out.
